The Tricycle Theatre is to host the Birmingham Repertory Theatre production of Rachel De-lahay’s Circles and Paines Plough’s production of Hopelessly Devoted by Kate Tempest, which both transfer from the regions.
Following a national tour, Hopelessly Devoted will run at the north London venue from April 7 to 19, while Circles runs from May 27 to June 14 after performances at Birmingham Rep.
As part of its summer season, the theatre will also stage the world premiere of a play by Canadian writer Adam Bock.
Directed by Trip Cullman, The Colby Sisters of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania runs from June 19 to July 26. Design is by Richard Kent, lighting design by Oliver Fenwick and sound design by Emma Laxton.
For the first time, the theatre will also host a week-long festival of work programmed and performed by young people aged 11 to 25.
The Tricycle Young Company will perform works including The Kilburn Passion, a new play by Suhayla El-Bushra, who previously wrote Pigeons for the Royal Court.
Taking place from March 30 to April 5, the Tricycle Takeover Festival will also feature a series of events – such as masterclasses on playwriting, acting, designing and directing – led by writers including Moira Buffini and Roy Williams and actors such as Lucian Msamati and Cecilia Noble.
Tricycle Theatre artistic director Indhu Rubasingham said: “It’s always nerve-wracking for an artistic director to let someone else take charge but I cannot wait to see the work the Tricycle Young Company will present when they run the building for a week in March.”
