Nicholas Serota has been reappointed chair of Arts Council England, and will remain in post until January 2025.
He was appointed to his second four-year term by Oliver Dowden, secretary of state for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport.
Serota has been in the role, which is paid £40,000 a year, since 2017, and took over from Peter Bazalgette.
He was previously director of the Tate, from 1988 to 2017, and was a member of the Olympic Delivery Authority which was responsible for building the Olympic Park in east London.
Serota has also been a board member of the BBC since 2016.
He said: “It is an honour to be invited to continue as chair of Arts Council England, at a time when – despite having never been under greater pressure – arts and culture have demonstrated how vital they are for the lives of individuals and communities across the country.
"Let’s Create, the Arts Council’s new strategy for the next ten years, establishes the principles for how we hope to ensure people of all ages and from all backgrounds can develop their own creativity, and engage with all forms of arts and culture. This is an exciting prospect and I look forward to helping to deliver that strategy."
