The Creative Well was born out of my love of music, live gigs, conversations with music makers and the realisation that the music industry was experiencing a mental health crisis, resulting in a number of suicides, particularly among touring professionals. Even though we will always have our roots firmly in music, we have evolved beyond solely the music industry by popular demand to include all of the performing arts.
Prioritise self-care and mental well-being alongside artistic pursuits. Remember to take breaks, manage stress, and seek support when needed. Balancing passion with self-care can lead to a more sustainable and fulfilling career in the performing arts.
Implement more support systems for artists, including access to mental health resources, affordable healthcare, and financial stability initiatives. Additionally, a culture of work-life balance and destigmatising discussions around mental health would foster a healthier environment for everyone.
The opportunity to support artists in maintaining their well-being while pursuing their passion. I get to play a crucial role in addressing their unique challenges and providing them with the tools and resources to thrive both personally and professionally. Also, witnessing the transformative power of creativity and expression on mental health can be incredibly fulfilling.
Adaptability. Adapting to different roles, environments and challenges is essential
in the ever-changing world of theatre.
