Despina Tsatsas has been appointed as the Royal Shakespeare Company’s first executive producer in London.
The role will see Tsatsas work with co-artistic directors Tamara Harvey and Daniel Evans, as well as executive director Andrew Leveson, to “define and deliver commercial producing opportunities for the RSC in London and internationally”, the RSC said.
Her position is one of two new roles being created by the RSC, with an executive producer (Stratford) also to be appointed. Previously, the RSC had one executive producer, which was most recently filled by Griselda Yorke, who left to join the Old Vic.
Tsatsas has more than 20 years’ experience across the subsidised and commercial theatre and entertainment sectors, having worked as executive producer at Punchdrunk International, Frantic Assembly and at the Young Vic.
She takes up her role in September.
Tsatsas said “The ambition of Daniel and Tamara’s first season, and the range of artist collaborations within it, speaks for itself. I look forward to working with... the whole RSC team, to deliver meaningful commercial sector partnerships that bring RSC productions to the broadest range of audiences in the UK and internationally.”
Leveson, Harvey and Evans said in a joint statement: “We’re delighted that Despina will be joining the team at the RSC in London. The sheer range of her experience as a creative producer, and the depth of her expertise as a leader, will be a huge asset to us as we forge ahead with this new chapter in the Company’s history.”
