Timberlake Weternbaker, April de Angelis and Rona Munro are among playwrights who will feature new work at Women Centre Stage: Heroines, a two-day festival celebrating more and better roles for women in theatre.
The festival, produced by Sphinx Theatre, will take place at the National Theatre and the Actors Centre on March 27 and 28 and is the culmination of the Women Centre Stage project, which launched last year.
The event will include workshops and seminars at the Actors Centre, as well as a day of performance at the National’s Temporary Theatre.
New writing to be performed includes the first stage performance of Wertenbaker’s The Memory of Gold as well as Pam Gems’ Rosa Luxembourg.
A selection of 24-hour plays by writers including Angelis, Munro, Rachel De Lahay and Barney Norris will be created as part of the festival’s culmination, 24 Hour Plays: Heroines.
