Jamie Muscato is to play Jay Gatsby in the West End transfer of Chunsoo Shin’s musical adaptation of The Great Gatsby, with Frances Mayli McCann cast as Daisy Buchanan.
The pair, both of whom have numerous West End credits already under their belt, will front the UK premiere of the Tony Award-winning adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s novel, which will open at the London Coliseum this April.
Shin said he was "delighted" to announce the two lead actors, adding: "Jamie and Frances’ extraordinary talent and undeniable chemistry are perfect for this iconic story, capturing all the glamour, passion, and intrigue of the Roaring Twenties.
"We cannot wait to welcome West End audiences to experience the dazzling spectacle, rich emotion, and timeless allure of this beloved classic like never before."
Muscato commented: "I’m absolutely thrilled to be stepping into the shoes of Jay Gatsby—a character so full of mystery, passion, and longing. Bringing this iconic role to life on the West End is an incredible honour, and I can’t wait to share this production with audiences."
McCann labelled Daisy a "complex, captivating character", adding: "I can’t wait to dive in to her world and share this timeless story with audiences in the heart of the West End."
Directed by Marc Bruni, The Great Gatsby premiered at New Jersey’s Paper Mill Playhouse in late 2023 before transferring to Broadway.
Now, one year after opening in New York, the production will open at the London Coliseum on April 11, where it will run until September 7 with a press night on April 24.
