London’s Turbine Theatre has suspended performances of My Night with Reg until August 8 as a result of a company member having to isolate.
The Battersea venue announced "with great sadness" that it was cancelling multiple performances of the Kevin Elyot play – between August 3 and 8 – because of government guidance around isolation, meaning taking the show off stage was "the only option".
A statement said: "Unfortunately, one of the company has been notified by the NHS Test and Trace app that they must self-isolate and, in line with current government guidance and with everyone’s best interests in mind, cancellation was the only option."
The production will return on August 10, the Turbine said.
The theatre is the latest in a growing number of productions across the country that have been disrupted by isolation rules.
In the past week, West End musical The Prince of Egypt was forced to cancel a string of performances for the second time, while others affected include the New Diorama Theatre in London and Hope Mill Theatre in Manchester, both of which cancelled a week’s worth of planned shows.
Hope Mill’s executive director William Whelton warned of the "catastrophic consequences" being faced by small venues as a result of pulling performances, and said the rules threaten theatres’ ability to operate.
