Monty Python is to reunite for a one-off show at London’s O2 arena, 40 years after they last appeared together on stage in the UK.
John Cleese, Terry Gilliam, Eric Idle, Terry Jones and Michael Palin announced the date – on July 1, 2014 – at a press conference at the Playhouse Theatre in London today. That theatre is currently home to the Monty Python musical Spamalot.
Cleese said their O2 show would feature new material and “the old hits”, but added they would not be done in “a predictable way”.
“The main danger we have is that the audience know the scripts better than we do,” he said.
It has also been announced that choreographer Arlene Phillips is involved in the production, which Idle likened to a “huge musical”.
Top priced tickets for the show will be £95, with bottom priced ones costing £26.50.
A DVD of the production will also be released following its staging at the O2.
