Jade Anouka and Susan Wokoma to feature in photo project celebrating black actresses

Actors including Jade Anouka and Susan Wokoma are to feature in a photography project celebrating black actresses on screen and stage.

Fashion photographer Shonay Shote was inspired to launch the project to help “fulfil the need for positive black representation”.

Other actresses who feature include Faith Alabi, Tamara Lawrance, Jennifer Saayeng and Joan Iyiola.

Shote told The Stage: “Representation of black women in the media is quite limited and I felt like I needed to fill that space.

“This is for everybody, but is mainly aimed at black women who want to see positive images of themselves.”

A Black Actress will culminate in a free exhibition, which Shote is currently fundraising for on crowdfunding website IndieGoGo.

The images shown are preview pictures, with the final images to be revealed in the exhibition.
