Britain’s Got Talent winner Jamie Lambert has set up a new theatre production company which aims to “shake up” the West End.
Lambert is chief executive of the company, called Lambert Jackson, which he has set up with performer Eliza Jackson, who is creative director.
The company will have a particular focus on nurturing talent and giving performers their first opportunities.
Lambert told The Stage: “Before Collabro, I sort of struggled to crack into the West End, as did my best friend and the company’s creative director Eliza.
“The way it runs is sometimes a bit like a conveyer belt – they use the same people for everything, and we want to change it up a bit.”
He added: “In each show, we aim to have at least one person who has not worked in the West End before. We are looking for fresh talent, as well as people who have waited a long time to make their West End debut.
“There’s so much talent out there that isn’t recognised, because they don’t have the credits they need to get the jobs.”
The first production will be a one-night celebration of 100 years of women in musical theatre, starring Louise Dearman, Ria Jones, Alexia Khadime and Rachel Tucker.
There’s Nothin’ Like a Dame – 100 Years of Women in Musical Theatre will run at Cadogan Hall in London on August 30.
Lambert, who is a member of the 2014 Britain’s Got Talent-winning musical theatre group Collabro, told The Stage Lambert Jackson will focus on musical theatre shows and one-night performances, but is open to producing other kinds of work in the future.
The company is currently in conversation about producing work in the West End next year.
Lambert added that the company has committed to paying Equity rates at all times.
