Cirque du Soleil is branching out into streaming its content, introducing an interactive digital platform that will go backstage at its current touring show Kurios: Cabinet of Curiosities.
The Canadian contemporary circus company is to release its new digital format in collaboration with Imagien and will offer viewers behind-the-scenes access and special footage of its circus acts, dance and acrobatics, through the use of television, phones and tablets.
Creators say viewers will be immersed in Cirque du Soleil shows, with the possibility to share the experience with friends and family by combining their devices.
Those using the technology will be able to follow performers and navigate through multiple areas of the venue from the VIP area to backstage.
Danny Theis, chief executive of Imagien, said: "We are proud to partner with Cirque du Soleil and provide the technology and platform behind this revolutionary interactive experience."
Anne Belliveau, chief customer experience officer at Cirque du Soleil Entertainment Group, said: "Our goal was to create the best possible experience, recognising the importance of testing the market and understanding how fans would embrace this new offering.
"By seamlessly blending technology, storytelling and real-time interaction, we are redefining how fans experience Cirque du Soleil – not just as spectators, but as active participants in our universe. And this is just the beginning of a deeper, more meaningful connection with our audience – every day of the year."
The interactive experience, delivered via Imagien’s interactive digital platform Parallel!, marks a shift in how Cirque du Soleil expands its reach. The company said it would be "going beyond the stage by offering fans our beloved intellectual properties in various formats whenever they want".
