Liverpool’s Epstein Theatre is to reopen some two years after the building shut due to the end of its local council funding.
General manager and theatre director Anthony Proctor-Williams has confirmed the historic venue would return sometime in 2025, complete with a refitted stage, new lighting and improved backstage areas.
In a post shared to Instagram, Proctor-Williams said: "We have some great news – the iconic Epstein Theatre will reopen in 2025.
"We can’t wait to give you more information. Right now, we are busy getting the theatre ready to welcome back Liverpool’s amazing community of artists and audiences."
Proctor-Williams added: "We are refitting the stage with new lighting, stage cloths and sound. We are also improving the backstage areas, while for the front of house we have refitted the bar, which is looking absolutely beautiful."

When asked for further comment, Proctor-Williams told The Stage the team would be "issuing a further statement at the end of the week".
It comes after Liverpool City Council declined to continue financially supporting the approximately 400-seat theatre’s previous operator, Epstein Entertainments Limited.
The decision led Epstein Entertainments, of which Proctor-Williams was theatre manager and programmer, to vacate the building, which shut its doors in June 2023.
The Edwardian Epstein Theatre was subsequently added to Theatres Trust’s Theatres at Risk Register.
Theatres Trust chief executive Joshua McTaggart said the organisation "warmly" welcomed the news the venue was set to reopen.
He said: "Following its closure in 2023, we added the grade II-listed venue to our Theatres at Risk Register and have been working since then to help find a way forward for this unique and beloved venue.
"We will continue to work with the Epstein Theatre to ensure a bright and stable future for this glorious venue on its return to entertaining the people of Liverpool."
