About ’Singers’ Weekend: Jazz, Gospel & World Music’
This two-day course, led by Scott Stroman and Guildhall’s Jazz vocal team, focuses on jazz, gospel, and world music. You will learn songs both as a large ensemble and in smaller vocal groups. There will also be an opportunity to perform individually should you wish to.
Who is the course for?
Anyone aged 16 and over with a passion for singing.
You do not need to be able to read music to attend, as all songs will be taught by ear.
There is no upper age limit on this course. We encourage and welcome participants from all ages 16 and over.
What can I expect?
You can expect to learn a variety of songs whilst developing your stylistic, rhythmic and harmonic awareness. The course will cover techniques in using a microphone, movement and vocal exercises. The workshop will culminate in a recorded performance, which will be accompanied by a band on Sunday evening.
Do I need anything for the course?
If you own a microphone and cable, please bring it to the course (not essential).
‘The course is very good, well led by experienced musicians. The range of music and students is great and everyone is enthusiastic.’ – Participant on Singers’ Weekend, 20
