Explore the unique playing conditions of our indoor theatre, the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse, and develop your craft as a director with this intensive course, led by theatre director and Professor Rob Swain. Over three days, you’ll have the chance to explore the unique actor-audience relationship of an indoor playhouse and discover how this impacts our understanding of Shakespeare’s texts.
You’ll be introduced to approaches to directing in the Playhouse and work with fellow directors to explore practical ways to create work in this distinctive space. The course will also include sessions on voice, movement and text, as well as a Q&A with a director who has worked in the space. The course culminates with each director having the opportunity to direct two professional actors in a short scene under candlelight.
This course will provide a safe and supportive space to explore, play and connect creatively, guided by our expert Globe Faculty and is suitable for directors with some experience working with Shakespeare.
