Explore the unique playing conditions of the open-air Globe Theatre and develop your craft as a director with this intensive three day course.
Guided by theatre director Professor Rob Swain, you’ll have the chance to explore the unparalleled relationship between actor, audience, and architecture in the Globe, and discover how this impacts our understanding of Shakespeare’s texts.
You’ll be introduced to approaches to directing in the theatre and work with fellow directors to explore practical ways to create work in this distinctive space. The course will also include sessions on voice, movement and text, and a Q&A with a Globe director. The course culminates with each director having the opportunity to direct two professional actors in a short scene under candlelight.
This course will provide a safe and supportive space to explore, play and connect creatively, guided by our expert Globe faculty and is suitable for directors with some experience working with Shakespeare.
