The BA Acting degree offers the chance for students to tailor their studies to suit their passion and increase employability within the creative industries.
Alongside the core acting techniques and methodologies, our students can opt to combine their Acting studies with our specialised Filmmaking modules such as Screenwriting or Digital Production. Or they can opt for modules in our Creative Production course and study Lighting or Stage Management. The result is that our graduates leave with the skills to develop a career in the TV, Film and theatre industries with the confidence and know-how to create their own work/content.
Everything is geared towards developing creatives that are ready to work in the profession. In your final year, you take part in a Showcase at a West End theatre to which agents are invited. We bring in professional directors and introduce you to agents and casting directors showing you how to network and navigate the industry. In the Spring of your final year, you will perform in your final show at our fully equipped St Mary's Theatre and take that show to another venue as part of our Festival of Creativity. The festival offers you the opportunity to perform in local theatres throughout West London including the OSO Arts Centre in Barnes.
Collaboration is key at St Mary's and through the cross-pollination of the courses we encourage our students to work together on projects. Students are encouraged and supported to use the University theatre and studios to work on their shows and we hold regular open-mic nights where students from the Creative Arts courses perform sketches, songs, stand up etc...
Your training doesn't finish when you graduate as we support you after graduating offering our facilities and expertise to help develop your theatre and film projects that you will take out into the wider creative industry.
