Whoopi Goldberg will reprise her starring role in Sister Act for a London run of the musical version next year, which will also star Jennifer Saunders.
Goldberg, who starred in the original film, appeared in the stage adaptation in the West End in 2010 as Mother Superior, but will play Deloris Van Cartier for the first time on stage at London’s Eventim Apollo.
Saunders will take the role of Mother Superior in the production, which runs from July 29 to August 30, 2020.
The musical has been reworked to star an older actor, and will first run on tour in the UK from April, starring Brenda Edwards.
Sister Act musical reworked for older actor as new tour announced
Edwards will appear as Deloris Van Cartier at the Apollo on Thursday matinee productions.
The musical features music by Alan Menken, lyrics by Glenn Slater and a book by Bill and Cheri Steinkellner, with additional book material by Douglas Carter Beane.

This is a very special one-off opportunity created just for London to see one of the most loved actors of our time playing the part she is so famous and so loved for.”
Goldberg will act as a producer alongside Wilson and Tom Leonardis.
