Howard Panter and Rosemary Squire’s Trafalgar Entertainment Group has acquired theatre app Stagedoor, as part of ambitions to grow its ticketing operation.
It is the latest in a line of recent acquisitions Trafalgar Entertainment has made, including HQ Theatres, Stagecoach Performing Arts and Helen O’Grady Drama Academy.
The app offers reviews and a booking platform to buy tickets to London shows. It recently created a loyalty scheme that rewards users for visiting venues across the capital.
Earlier this year, TEG launched its own ticketing arm, Trafalgar Tickets, which it said would unify ticketing across its regional theatre portfolio and improve customer service.
TEG chief operating officer Helen Enright said the acquisition of Stagedoor would add “greater value to producers” and that the additional sales channel would enable TEG to reach a “broader audience and gather valuable data from committed theatregoers”.
“The acquisition also reinforces our commitment to the theatre industry and is an exciting proposition for TEG as we continue to build our ticketing division and strategy. We look forward to selling more shows, tickets and providing value added services to customers and theatre fans everywhere,” she added.
As part of the deal, Stagedoor’s staff – along with their co-founders Michael Hadjijoseph and Alex Cican – will remain with the company to ensure that “future business ambitions are fulfilled”, the organisations said in a statement.
Stagedoor chief executive Michael Hadjijoseph said: "We’re very excited to be joining the Trafalgar family. Our vision for Stagedoor is completely aligned with the capabilities of a larger organisation like Trafalgar Entertainment, and the synergies between other portfolio companies in TE’s group give us confidence that we will be able to realise Stagedoor’s full potential in becoming ‘the new home of theatre’.”
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
