The Inheritance has added to its awards haul, winning the theatre prize at this year’s South Bank Sky Arts Awards.
At the ceremony in London on July 7 Lenny Henry was presented with an outstanding achievement award.
Matthew Lopez’s The Inheritance was presented the theatre prize by Jamael Westman, winning over Company and Sweat. It previously won three prizes at the Critics’ Circle awards in January, and four gongs at this year’s Olivier Awards.
The dance category was won by English National Ballet’s Playlist (Track 1,2) by William Forsythe, while the opera award was taken by English National Opera’s Porgy and Bess.

The Times Breakthrough Award went to actor Jessie Buckley, a category for which Six writers Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss were also nominated.
Richard Curtis presented Henry with the outstanding achievement award. The actor said he was ecstatic to win and added: “This ceremony is particularly special, as the awards celebrate the incredible spectrum of arts that the UK has to offer. I’m very proud indeed to be honoured in this way.”
The awards will be broadcast on Sky Arts on July 10 at 8pm.
