The Book of Mormon leads Acting for Others charity bucket collections

West End musical The Book of Mormon has raised more than £38,500 from bucket collections for theatrical charity Acting for Others.

The comedy running at London’s Prince of Wales Theatre is currently leading a nationwide fundraising drive which has so far raised more than £183,500.

More than 90 theatres in London and across the UK have been using bucket collections to raise money for the umbrella charity, for which The Stage is a media partner. For most of the theatres, the fundraising effort has been focused over a two week period from October 16.

Earlier this year, The Book of Mormon won an award from Acting for Others for best London bucket collection, after raising nearly £43,000 in 2016.

Other shows to have raised more than £10,000 this year include 42nd Street at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane, Dreamgirls at the Savoy Theatre and The Ferryman at the Gielgud Theatre, all in London’s West End.

Also leading the fundraising are the Queen’s Theatre in London, where Les Miserables is showing, Guildford’s Yvonne Arnaud Theatre, the National Theatre in London, and Sheffield Theatres.

De Montfort Hall in Leicester and Milton Keynes Theatre have also raised more than £5,000 for the charity, which supports 15 smaller theatrical charities.

Bucket collection figures are still to come in from about 30 theatres.
