A theatre designer whose work is about to go on show at London’s Royal Court Theatre has secured a £20,000 fellowship as part of the 2025 Arts Foundation Futures Awards.
TK Hay is one of five artists to secure a grant under the organisation’s commitment to double the prize money in light of the increased financial precarity for culture workers.
Hay, who won The Stage Debut Award for best design in 2022, secured the Arts Foundation’s theatre award in a ceremony at Kings Place in London, with Shakespeare’s Globe chief executive and prize jury member Stella Kanu presenting the gong.
Kanu said Hay’s work "stands out among his peers", commenting: "It is visually captivating and his carefully crafted designs have an ability to communicate to the viewer the journey of the performance before the actors even step on stage.
"TK is a deserving recipient of the Arts Foundation Fellowship, and we have no doubt that this will propel him to the next phase of his career and enable him to make an important contribution to the sector as a whole."

Hay, whose designs for Scenes from a Repatriation can be seen at Royal Court Theatre’s c venue from April 25 to May 24, has designed for venues including Wales Millennium Centre, London’s Bush Theatre, and Manchester’s Royal Exchange.
His fellow awardees include visual art fellow Leo Robinson, film award winner Tina Pasotra, architectural designer Kaye Song, and choreographer Charlotte Mclean.
Wayne McGregor, who awarded Mclean the dance prize, said of her work: "It was a revelation."
He added: "It is a privilege to award Charlotte this year’s increased fellowship of £20,000. She is a truly deserving artist and someone who we all felt would continue to create magic in their work for many years to come."
Mary Jane Edwards, director of the Arts Foundation, said: "The creative ingenuity, determination and focus of the Arts Foundation Futures Awards Fellows always inspire us. We’re proud to increase our support for independent artists this year and champion the livelihoods of creatives. We have no doubt all the artists and fellows will have a significant impact on our shared cultural life."
