Kate Wasserberg has unveiled her inaugural season as artistic director of Wales’ Theatr Clwyd, which will include a new production of Jonathan Larson’s Tick, Tick...Boom!
The musical, directed by Wasserberg, will kickstart her first season at the helm of the North Wales venue from June 2025.
Tick, Tick...Boom!, set to run from June 2 to June 28 with press night on June 6, will also mark the re-opening of the venue following an extensive rebuild aiming to make the building greener as well as providing dedicated spaces for theatremaking and engagement programmes.
Wasserberg’s first season will also include a co-production of Alan Ackybourn’s comic thriller Snake in the Grass with Octagon Theatre, which will be directed by Francesca Goodridge. It will run from September 15 to October 4, 2025, with press night on September 18.
Meanwhile The Red Rogue of Bala by Welsh writer Chris Ashworth-Bennion will have its world premiere at the venue between November 3 and November 22, with press night on November 6.
Later in the season Wasserberg will also stage Twelfth Night as a "glorious celebration of queer culture" directed by Juliette Manon and a new production of Dylan Thomas’ Under Milk Wood as part of Theatr Clwyd’s Craidd project, which is billed as a "ground-breaking" advance in mainstream theatre representation for D/deaf, disabled and neurodivergent people.
Commenting on the announcement, Wasserberg said: "This is a watershed moment for Theatr Clwyd and an absolute honour for me as artistic director.
"I am delighted to open this state-of-the-art building with a season that showcases the extraordinary wealth and diversity of the talent to be found in Wales. This season reflects our communities and invites audiences back home to us, whatever your taste."
