Kathy Burke and Scott Graham are to co-direct a new play by Sally Abbott, as part a programme of work celebrating the 25th anniversary of theatre company Frantic Assembly.
The world premiere of I Think We Are Alone will tour from February 3, 2020 to May 16, visiting venues including Theatre Royal Stratford East, the Lowry in Salford, Nuffield Southampton, Bristol Old Vic, Theatre Royal Plymouth and Leicester Curve.
It is a co-production with Theatre Royal Plymouth and Leicester Curve.
Burke said: “Having been a fan of Frantic Assembly for many years I’m really looking forward to working with them as a co-director as it’s something I’ve not done before. It’s good to try new things when you’re a groovy oldie.”
Frantic Assembly has also announced that the company will return to Latitude Festival to headline the theatre arena, where it will present Phil Porter’s Sometimes Thinking.
The show will be co-directed by the Frantic Assembly’s artistic director Graham and associate director Simon Pittman, and will feature a soundtrack from electronic band Underworld.
Frantic Assembly will take over the programme of the National Theatre River Stage for the weekend of July 26 to 28.
The River Stage programme will include Sometimes Thinking, a performance celebrating Frantic Assembly’s 25th anniversary called Frantic Megamix and a movement demonstration from A Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time.
Participants in Frantic Assembly’s Ignition for women programme, which provides free movement training for young women, will make their first public performance as part of the National Theatre River Stage takeover, with the project rolling out nationally in 2020.
The company has also announced the formation of “creative think tank” the Assembly, which will see a group of artists meet quarterly to discuss the vision of the organisation.
Additionally, the organisation is to move to Somerset House, leaving their offices of nine years in Farringdon.
