Giles Terera has pulled out of appearing in the National Theatre’s Death of England: Delroy following emergency surgery.
The theatre stressed it was not Covid-19 related, but that the actor needed six weeks recuperation.
The role in the one-man show will now be played by Michael Balogun, who has been understudying the part.
Death of England: Delroy explores a Black working-class man “searching for truth and confronting his relationship with Great Britain”.
Death of England: Delroy is the first play to be performed at the National Theatre since theatres across the UK closed on March 16.
It begins its run on October 21.
