Giles Terera and Michael Balogun are to star in a new touring production of Joe Penhall’s Blue/Orange.
The production will open at the Theatre Royal Bath’s Ustinov Studio from October 29 to November 13.
It will then run at Oxford Playhouse from November 16 to 20, and Northampton’s Royal and Derngate from November 23 to December 4.
Blue/Orange, which is set in a London psychiatric hospital, won the Olivier award, Critics’ Circle Theatre award and Evening Standard Theatre award for best new play when it premiered in 2000.
This production of Blue/Orange is co-created by Balogun, Terera and James Dacre, the artistic director of the Royal and Derngate who also directs.
It has set and costume design by Simon Kenny, sound design by Tony Gayle and compositions by Valgeir Sigurðsson. The associate director is Francesca Murray-Fuentes and voice and dialect are by Hazel Holder and Ellie Manners.
Terera said: "I vividly remember how fired up and moved I was watching Joe Penhall’s extraordinary play when it premiered.
"I believe the play can speak to us just as much, if not more so now as it did then.
"Getting to explore its themes of identity, mental health, race and a power struggle at the heart of the NHS alongside Michael Balogun is something I’m very excited about."
Blue/Orange is co-produced by the Royal and Derngate in Northampton, Theatre Royal Bath Productions and Oxford Playhouse.
