Dominic Dromgoole is to direct a Spanish-language production as part of Cervantes Theatre in London’s latest season.
Lope de Vega’s El perro del hortelano (The Dog in the Manger), which premiered in Spain, will run from April 13 to 15.
Produced by Spanish theatre company Fundación Siglo de Oro, is the first play in Spanish to be directed by Dromgoole.
The cast includes María Pastor as Diana and Nicolás Illoro as Teodoro, with Raquel Nogueira, Raquel Varela, Mar Calvo, Manuela Morales, Daniel Llull, Jesús Teyssiere, Mario Vedoya and Julio Hidalgo. The text is adapted by Dromgoole and Fundación Siglo de Oro.
Cervantes Theatre is London’s only venue dedicated to the performance of Spanish and Latin American plays, both in Spanish and English.
Other productions in the season include Carolina Román’s Broken Toys, translated by L. Finch, from June 8 to July 1, and Juan Carlos Rubio’s La Isla/The Island from September 28 to October 21. Both productions are in English.
With performances in both Spanish and English, Federico García Lorca’s Amor de don Perlimplín con Belisa en su jardín/ The Love of Don Perlimplín and Belisa in the Garden will then run from November 1 to 26.
It is directed by co-founder and co-artistic director of Cervantes Theatre Paula Paz.
La Casa de Bernarda Alba, by Lorca and directed by Cervantes Theatre co-artistic director Jorge de Juan, is currently running at the theatre until April 1.
