Tina Turner has announced that Broadway star Adrienne Warren will portray her in the West End musical based on her life.
Tina is written by Katori Hall, Frank Ketelaar and Kees Prins, and features some of Turner’s most well-known songs.
Warren will be making her West End debut in the production. Her theatre credits include Shuffle Along, on Broadway, for which she was nominated for a Tony, as well as Dreamgirls and Bring It On the Musical, both on Broadway.
Phyllida Lloyd directs Tina, with choreography by Anthony van Laast, design by Mark Thompson, lighting by Bruno Poet and orchestrations by Ethan Popp.
The musical will have its world premiere at the Aldwych Theatre in April next year, and is currently booking from March 21 to June 16. Press night will be on April 17.
Further casting is yet to be announced.
Turner said of Warren: “From the moment I met her at our last workshop I saw her exceptional talent. Playing this role will require immense physical and emotional commitment, and bravery too.”
Stage Entertainment, Joop van den Ende and Tali Pelman are producing Tina, in association with Turner.
