After Covid-19 delayed the 2020 Olivier Awards by more than six months, this year’s winners have been revealed.
Musicals Dear Evan Hansen and & Juliet and new play Emilia each took home three awards, while Present Laughter at the Old Vic won two – including best actor for Andrew Scott and best supporting actress for Indira Varma.
Sharon D Clarke won best actress for Death of a Salesman, meaning she has now won in three out of the four female performance categories at the Olivier Awards, while Matthew Bourne’s win as best theatre choreographer – with Stephen Mear – now means he has amassed more Oliviers than any other individual.
Don Black was given this year’s special award, while Ian McKellen was honoured for his 80th birthday one-man show, which he toured to more than 80 theatres, raising money for venues around the UK.
The awards were announced on October 25, following a pre-recorded ceremony at the London Palladium, hosted by Jason Manford.
