The John Wilson Orchestra will return to this year’s BBC Proms for the fifth consecutive year, to perform an evening of music dedicated to “unsung Hollywood composers”.
Called John Wilson and Hollywood Rhapsody, the prom will take place on August 26.
According to the BBC, it will feature the work of composers “whose classic scores drove and defined Hollywood’s golden age”. It will be broadcast on BBC4.
Other events at this year’s line-up include a Doctor Who prom and another dedicated to film soundtracks.
This will see the BBC Concert Orchestra play themes from films such as 2001: A Space Odyssey, Star Wars and Alien on August 31.
This year’s BBC Proms will also include nine major opera performances – including Tippett’s The Midsummer Marriage, Britten’s Billy Budd and seven Wagner operas.
Each prom will be broadcast live on BBC Radio 3, while BBC1, BBC2, BBC3 and BBC4 will show select highlights from the season.
