Her Majesty’s Theatre in the West End will be renamed following the death of the Queen.
A spokesperson for LW Theatres, which owns the theatre, said it would become His Majesty’s Theatre at the “appropriate time".
It is understood this will be following the coronation, and in line with other changes, such as representation on stamps and money.
The spokesperson said the theatre had changed its name with other monarchs and that it would be changed following the death of Queen Elizabeth II.
It opened in 1705 and was originally called the Queen’s Theatre, with Queen Anne’s permission.
In 1714 the building was renamed the King’s Theatre on the accession of King George I.
On the accession of Queen Victoria in 1837, the theatre’s name was changed to Her Majesty’s Theatre, before becoming His Majesty’s in 1901, with the accession of King Edward VII.
