Kiln Theatre artistic director Indhu Rubasingham and actor Shobna Gulati are among those to be recognised by an awards ceremony celebrating Asian involvement in the arts.
The 2019 Eastern Eye Arts, Culture and Theatre Awards, which include categories covering theatre, television and film, took place in London on June 21.
Rubasingham was presented with the Eastern Eye Award for best director for her production of Zadie Smith’s White Teeth at the Kiln Theatre in London.
Shobna Gulati was given the best actress award for theatre for her performance in Richard II at Sam Wanamaker Playhouse in London.
The best actor award for theatre went to Nitin Ganatra for his performance in Danny Robins’ End of the Pier at Park Theatre in London.
Other winners included the Royal Shakespeare Company’s Tartuffe, set in Birmingham’s Pakistani Muslim community, for best production.
Sonia Sabri won the dance award for her work Virago, while actor Antonio Aakeel was presented with the emerging artist accolade for his role in the film Eaten By Lions.
The people’s choice award went to Mandip Gill for acting.
