Contemporary dance company Rambert has appointed Anna Appleby as its new music fellow.
Appleby will work with the company over the course of a year, during which time she will contribute to Rambert’s creative output by composing, arranging and orchestrating music for contemporary dance work.
She is the sixth recipient of the music fellow, and the post also includes leading workshops with dancers, choreographers and musicians and curating concerts and public events at the Rambert studios in central London.
Appleby said she felt “honoured” to have been chosen for the fellowship.
“The opportunity to work with world-class choreographers and dancers is a life-changing one for me. My dream for the past six years has been to compose for the stage, and this is the most exciting chance I’ve had yet in this field,” she said.
She added that she wanted to use her time with Rambert to challenge dancers and choreographers to think about musical form in a new light.
Rambert music director Paul Hoskins congratulated Appleby on her appointment and said he was excited to see what comes from working with her.
The music fellowship is supported by the PRS for Music Foundation and the Harold Hyam Wingate Foundation.
Rambert also runs a choreography fellowship, which was launched earlier this year, and aims to help professional dancers make the transition to becoming full-time choreographers. Julie Cunningham was appointed in June as the inaugural choreography fellow.
