Productions include: On Blueberry Hill, Misty, A Day in the Death of Joe Egg, The Rocky Horror Show, The King and I, Anything Goes, Death Drop
Quietly establishing themselves as a force to be reckoned with, this young producing partnership boasts an impressive portfolio of work combining traditional theatre classics – both plays and musicals – with more edgy, groundbreaking fare.
Working under the auspices of Trafalgar Theatre Productions, the pair has been involved with large-scale projects including Anything Goes and The King and I, but they have also significantly broadened and diversified the commercial theatre producer’s offerings, transferring groundbreaking shows such as Misty and Nine Night into the West End.
Prior to coming together to work at Trafalgar, Daniel Brodie was an associate producer at London’s Royal Court, where he came through the Stage One apprenticeship scheme before working on projects including the theatre’s Beyond the Court seasons in Tottenham and Pimlico. Meanwhile, Matt Parritt had previously been a speciality theatre and film lawyer at Harbottle and Lewis, where clients included Secret Cinema, the National Theatre, Monty Python, DreamWorks, Working Title and Universal Pictures.
Among their other work at the Trafalgar Studios (prior to its conversion to the Trafalgar Theatre) was the revival of A Day in the Death of Joe Egg, the first production of the show to feature a disabled performer, Storme Toolis, in the role of Josephine, as well as transfers of shows such as Bristol Old Vic’s The Grinning Man and the Wardrobe Ensemble’s Education, Education, Education.
More recently, they have been at the forefront of efforts to reopen UK theatre, helming some of the first shows to return post-pandemic, including drag murder-mystery Death Drop in the West End, for which they were one of the lead producers, Anything Goes at the Barbican and a UK tour of The Rocky Horror Show.
Whether independently or under Trafalgar’s auspices, they are ones to watch and also have a familial link to The Stage 100 royalty – former number one (for a record seven years) Rosemary Squire is Brodie’s mother.
