The Stage Scholarships is teaming up with Razzamataz Theatre Schools once again to offer free training on its one-year, part-time performing arts course. Former scholarship winners chat to Paul Vale and tell him what’s on offer
For more than a decade, Razzamataz Theatre Schools all over the UK have worked with The Stage to help provide hundreds of young people with access to performing arts training.
With more than 50 schools around the country, Razzamataz supplies a valuable introduction to acting, singing and dancing in a safe and friendly environment with an award that makes up about 100 hours of training.
From a financial perspective, the total value of these awards offered by Razzamataz across its schools is in excess of £46,000.
Established in 2000 by former dancer Denise Hutton-Gosney, Razzamataz aims to give children everywhere the chance to attend classes taught by experienced performers. In 2007, the school famously secured the backing of Dragons’ Den panelist Duncan Bannatyne and the businessman and entrepreneur remains a committed partner to this day.
Razzamataz’s schools offer young people a unique and enriching experience. Not only is it an opportunity to immerse themselves in the world of performing arts, but they can also enjoy an environment that allows them to be themselves, fostering creativity, confidence and teamwork.
A family atmosphere is encouraged at each school and friendships are formed that can last a lifetime. Classes for the main school start at age four and carry on through to 18 years, where focused classes help prepare eager students for professional and vocational college auditions.
One of last year’s winners, Phoebe Hilton from Sheffield, is fulfilling a long-held dream at Razzamataz.
“Acting has always been something I have wanted to do and being given the reassurance that I am capable
and skilled enough to do that has meant so much. I also massively appreciate the recognition of how far I’ve come and the amount of confidence it has taken me to get here.”
Razzamataz encourages children to discover their passion for the arts while building essential life skills. This is created through numerous opportunities to perform, both locally and on world-class stages through partnerships with prestigious industry names such as Warner Bros Entertainment, 20th Century Fox and Universal Pictures.
There are also workshops and masterclasses with industry professionals and a myriad of other experiences that create lifelong memories.
Last year’s West End showcase took place at the Shaftesbury Theatre in London, with more than 250 students taking part.
Another excited winner from 2023 is 12-year-old Keira Munnelly from Rickmansworth: “I’ve been going since I was four and I’m so happy that I can keep developing my singing, dancing and acting. I want to start applying for agencies and I know the amazing teachers at Razz will help me with this.”
With a curriculum focused on traditional West End musical theatre and the commercial genres, young performers receive the most current and on-trend training available. Through meticulously crafted classes, workshops and performances, Razzamataz equips its students with the skills and opportunities to reach their full potential – whatever pathway they go on to choose.
