Essex teenager Harmony Aimola is the winner of The Stage Scholarship with Performance Preparation Academy, worth over £9,000. Paul Vale finds out about the 17-year-old’s stage and screen dreams, and what made her stand out from the crowd
The winner of The Stage Scholarship with Performance Preparation Academy has been announced.
Harmony Aimola from Dagenham in Essex will begin a year-long, level 3 foundation course at PPA in Guildford, which will prepare her thoroughly for a vocational three-year degree course.
The total value of this golden opportunity – supported by PPA – is £9,250.
Harmony, who is 17 and originally from Italy, moved to the UK with her parents when she was 13.
She says: “I’m really excited to start at PPA and I am thrilled to have been granted the scholarship.
“I’m completely blown away.”
Harmony is currently studying acting at BTEC level at Leyton Sixth Form College, before which, she had taken drama lessons at her school.
“I was just very interested in acting overall, even before moving to London,” she explains. “And I always try to perform locally in my town in amateur dramatics, so I’ve had quite a bit of practical experience already.”

Audition days can be a nerve-racking time, but Harmony was particularly taken by the atmosphere at PPA and its sense of inclusivity.
“I arrived early and we were welcomed by one of the students,” she recalls.
“They were talking to us about different courses and just the audition in general, and how we shouldn’t be worried or be panicked about it. After that, I felt more at ease.
“We did a warm-up and the group had a chance to feel comfortable with each other. Everybody there had the same passion and the same goals.
“It was really nice and there was a lot of laughter.”
The management team on hand at PPA on the day of auditions were just as full of praise for Harmony as she was for the organisation.
Sarah Thorne is the head of faculty and education at PPA.
“During her audition, the panel were impressed by Harmony’s passion for acting,” she says. “She demonstrated huge potential and was a confident and engaging performer.”
As for the future, Harmony is keen to explore many different aspects of the acting business.
“Honestly, my final goal was always film and TV, but I really liked performing on stage,” she explains. “I feel as though it’s something that I would definitely miss if I only focused on screen work.
“So I really do hope that after drama school, my career would be more open to different experiences for both film and stage maybe.
“Something else that I really would love to do is video games and digital work too. I really would love to be part of one of those projects.”
