Spoken English for Actors: in-person

Working in groups of mixed acting experience and ability, you will explore a range of plays to develop a rehearsal technique utilising the methodology of Stanislavski and subsequent practitioners who were influenced by him. You will also work on:

  • Text Analysis (with particular emphasis on nuance, idiom, vernacular and syntax)
  • Monologues
  • Scene Study
  • Voice (including phonetics and pronunciation)

This course is specifically designed for participants for whom English is an additional language. Due to the content of the course, you will need a level of fluency in spoken English. The course is suitable for students considering studying acting in English, or professional actors who wish to build their confidence when acting in English. Although the focus will be on British English, there will be opportunity to examine the fundamental differences between British and American English.
