MA Dance & Choreography is part of a dynamic creative community at Leeds School of Arts. We support bold experimentation and dynamic skill acquisition. You will learn from dedicated industry professionals with a wealth of professional artistic expertise. Your fellow students will be diverse dance-artists from different parts of the UK and the world. You will explore new ways to produce, perform and study innovative dance & choreography choosing optional modules to create an individually tailored programme of study. These allow you to identify and develop specialist artistic interests. Options include:

  • Socially Engaged Arts practice
  • Dance & Choreography in the Expanded Field
  • Mentor project
  • Negotiated project
  • Improvisation
  • Writing
  • Talking
  • Festival
  • Embodied Knowledges
  • Artist as Teacher

You will develop your artistic identity by creating new performance work. Theatre, gallery, site and screen-based projects are all possible. You may also want to pursue participatory, immersive and socially engaged practices in community contexts or focus your practice towards specific career development. You will be guided in these choices.

Leeds has a vibrant dance scene of organisations and independent artists working in a range of styles. The course affords you opportunities for platforming your work in professional venues, connecting with the wider professional community and expanding your understandings of dance and choreography by making and performing.
