Our MA Costume Making is a course for costume professionals who want to focus on construction. This course will give you the opportunity to develop advanced technical construction skills and become a versatile and creative costume maker able to produce costumes for all types of performance. You can further your skills in associated areas, such as millinery and costume props along with advanced pattern cutting and making techniques from different periods and styles.

Through our range of taught modules and workshops, you will advance your costume construction skills and apply these in practical projects. We place great emphasis on ensuring that our programmes support sustainable employment after you graduate. Working with external industry professionals and peers from other disciplines, you will be able to demonstrate a collaborative approach to work to reflect the reality of the industry. Our two show seasons maximise your potential for learning ‘on the job’ and you will work with artists, designers and directors on public shows, all the while growing your portfolio and gaining the skills needed to produce a sophisticated, viable career plan.

Our students learn about different methods of practice-based research and gain a good artistic and economic understanding of the wider performing arts industry. Throughout the course you will develop a strong voice to communicate your creative intentions and present research. By the end of the course, you should graduate as a skilled costume maker with a strong portfolio ready to take your place in the performance industries landscape.
