This course aims to bring together performance, production (both technical and creative), composition and arranging in such a way as to provide a balance between traditional music skills and the kind of skills, techniques and knowledge necessary to develop and sustain a career in the music industries in their present form.
The traditional view of education producing ‘performers’ or ‘producers’ is not matched by the multi-skilled individuals who work across these areas across the music industries.
As such, the course recognises the need to equip students with the knowledge, skills and ability to work in a rapidly shifting musical world where the majority of performances are received through production and lines between performance and production are blurred. In this way the course places itself firmly in the present by providing an opportunity to develop musical skills and graduate attributes that prepare students for work within the music industries.
Your course is delivered by an academic teaching team made up of active expect musicians, practitioners and active researchers with our state-of-the-art recording studios, production suites, rehearsal rooms, ensemble rooms dedicated music IT labs. In addition, you will be able to undertake performances in our numerous theatre spaces and also our 1100 capacity Student’s Union Stage music venue next door.
