Acting for Contemporary Theatre - Intermediate

This summer, Bristol Old Vic Theatre School invites you to take part in our programme of intensive short courses, each designed to broaden and sharpen your acting skills. These courses are open to anyone aged 18+ with an interest in acting – you may be starting out in acting and enjoy performing as a hobby, or a seasoned professional seeking to learn new approaches or refresh your knowledge.

Regardless of your background, Bristol Old Vic Theatre School offers a fun and nurturing environment in which to pursue your creative ambitions. The support and feedback available from your tutor and peers will help you develop your natural talents and confidence in acting.

Acting for Contemporary Theatre, Monday 22 – Friday 26 July 2024 | £570 | Intermediate, age 18+

The intermediate level Acting for Contemporary Theatre course explores the intricacies of performing modern scripts, with an emphasis on realism and authenticity in performances. You will develop your ability to analyse scripts, deliver naturalistic dialogue, explore character psychology and hone physical as well as vocal expression.

You will engage in hands-on scene work from contemporary plays, with a focus on interaction with other actors and enhancing emotional depth. The course culminates in a presentation of individual scenes and an ensemble showcase.

This course builds upon the foundational skills taught as part of the beginner level Acting for Contemporary Theatre course in April 2024. However, it is not mandatory to attend the beginner level course prior to attending the intermediate course. We welcome individuals with a working knowledge of performing contemporary texts to sign up directly to this course.
