Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs

Published Wednesday 22 December 2010 at 16:10 by Kevin Berry

The Alhambra pantomime must be the jewel in the Qdos Entertainment crown. Under Jon Conway’s leadership it has evolved, constantly improved and taken on new effects and styles. And, there is always Billy Pearce to light the blue touch paper. Pearce must be the consummate panto performer of his generation, a whirlwind of fun and laughter.

This year author/director Conway has put together a fairy tale with original music. 3D effects make the Queen’s mirror really quite startling and there are thrilling journeys along mysterious passageways.

Pearce is surrounded by the strongest Alhambra cast yet. Sian Reeves is a wonderfully outrageous and almost loveable Queen Lucretia. Kelly Chinery wows as Snow White, being remarkably watchable and richly talented. Stephen Craig, a nephew of the many Osmond brothers (his mum is Marie), makes an appealing prince. He joins in with a mix of bemused innocence and enthusiasm.

Billy Pearce is in his natural element. Laughing, clowning, singing and involving everyone in the auditorium. Not one quip, gesture or joke misses its mark - the entertainment is total and absolute. That Pearce is not on television and better known to the wider world is not a pity, it is an out and out tragedy.
